Inhibits the effectiveness of hyaluronidase, an enzyme secreted by microbes to dissolve mucous membranes and thusly gain entry into your body. Throat, bladder & yeast infections (including Candida albicans). Potentiates insulin, and cleanses vital organs. Promotes the functioning capacity of the heart, the lymphatic and respiratory system, the liver, the spleen, the pancreas, and the colon. Used topically for skin diseases wounds & eye infections.Used to treat symptoms of the cold and flu, of menstrual disorders, urinary infections, irritable bowel syndrome, rheumatic and muscular pain and as an antispasmodic. Reported to enhance the potency of other herbs. Aids digestion by promoting the production of saliva, bile, and other digestive enzymes. May control heavy menstrual and postpartum bleeding by means of its astringent action. As a dilute infusion, Goldenseal can be used as an eyewash and as a mouthwash for gum disease, and canker sores. It is also an effective wash or douche for yeast infections. External applications have been used in the treatment of skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, athlete's foot, herpes, and ringworm. Parts Used Bright yellow root

Active ingredients Alkaloids hydrastine & berberine responsible for Goldenseal's effectiveness against bacteria, protozoa, fungi & yeast infections. Berberine is a bitter that aids digestion and that has a sedative action on the central nervous system & is antibiotic against Streptococci and prevents the attachment of Streptococci to the throat. Berberine is also antifungal and strongly anti-diarrheal. Berberine seems to fire up your white blood cells, making them more effective at neutralizing harmful bacteria. Acts as digestif by stimulating the production of bile

Use As a dietary supplement, 500mg of Golden Seal is used 2-3 times daily; higher amounts are used at the onset of symptoms of the above conditions. Precautions Goldenseal contains berberine, a mild oxytocic (stimulates contractions of the uterus) and should not be used by pregnant women. Use of very large doses can or extended use is not suggested. Not for use during pregnancy or by children under two. Children and older adults should take smaller doses.

Goldenseal grows wild in moist mountainous woodland areas & was used by the Native Americans to treat irritations & inflammation of the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive, and urinary tracts. It was commonly used topically for skin and eye infections. Because of its antimicrobial activity, goldenseal has a long history of use for infectious diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infections, and vaginal infections. The Cherokees used golden seal to dye fabric, treat skin conditions and relieve eye sores & mixed it with bear greaseto make an effective insect repellent.
